Attorney Questions Future of Florida Fire Sprinkler Lawsuits

An attorney monitoring legal action against the fire sprinkler industry by Florida condo associations and building owners is questioning whether the lawsuits are doomed to fail.

Alex Barthet, a principal in the Barthet Firm, a Miami law firm specializing in construction law, created the CPVC Fire Sprinkler Report to post his comments on the lawsuits over the use of CPVC pipe in fire sprinkler systems.

In a March post, Barthet speculated that denials of class certification in federal court were rapidly deflating what had been hyped as litigation with nationwide repercussions and billion-dollar liabilities. “Quite a stunning turn of events for what was touted as the largest defect litigation anyone had ever seen in this country,” he wrote.
